What To Do After Your First Massage

What To Do After Your First Massage - truMedic

So you finally got that massage...congratulations! You’ve done your body an incredible service as Massage Therapy can help relieve stress, soreness, and even help stimulate hormone production.

Now that you’ve been massaged, here are a few steps you can take to ensure that you get the most out of your treatment:

1. Drink water

We put this step at the top of the list because it is the most important. Your massage increased circulation and flushed toxins out of your body tissues and now, those toxins need to be flushed out of the body. Drinking water can help flush those toxins out to prevent post-massage headaches and soreness.

2. Have a healthy snack

Since you took our advice and didn’t have a big meal right before your massage, you might be getting hungry. Massage Therapy tends to increase circulation, which in turn, can improve the efficiency of bodily functions like digestion. So have a snack if you’re hungry! While not a medical necessity, we recommend you stay away from greasy or unhealthy foods to avoid ruining your post-massage bliss with a belly ache.

3.Avoid stress (if you can)

This one is rather conditional. We can’t all have the luxury of being able to avoid stressful activities immediately after a massage, some people have important obligations to their families, friends, and careers that simply cannot be put off. If you are fortunate enough to have the option, avoiding stressful activities right after your massage can help extend that feeling of relaxation beyond the masseuse’s office.

4. Put on your PJ-pants

As we’ve discussed previously, it is best to show up for your massage in loose, comfortable clothing. Most of us, however, have to schedule our massages for right after work, forcing us to show up in our formal attire. Changing into loose-fitting sweatpants after a massage can help the relaxing feeling last longer than if you were to put your formal attire back on.

5. Relax!

Part of the reason you got a massage in the first place was to kick back and relax, so why not take that feeling home with you? Take a hot bath, read a book, or do whatever you do to relax to keep that post-massage relaxation lasting as long as possible!

Now you know what to do after your first massage, and any massage thereafter.
